What is Connections?
Connections Game is a daily word puzzle game that challenges players to group a set of 16 seemingly unrelated words into four connected groups of four. At first glance, the words may look totally random—but hidden beneath the surface are clever links based on categories like movie titles, synonyms, types of cheese, or even pop culture references.
Created by the New York Times Games team, Connections Game joins the ranks of modern classics like Wordle and Spelling Bee, offering a quick yet mentally stimulating puzzle to start (or end) your day.
How It Works
You’ll be presented with 16 words. Your goal? To find four distinct groups of four that are connected in some meaningful way. Maybe it’s:
Words that can follow “fire” (like “truck,” “house,” “alarm,” and “fighter”)
Characters from a popular sitcom
Types of fruit
Words that sound alike
You get four chances to submit a correct group. Use them wisely—guessing wrong too many times could throw off your chances of winning!
Each puzzle includes:
Four categories, ranging from easy to tricky
A color-coded system to show the difficulty level of each category (yellow for easiest, purple for hardest)
A satisfying animation when you correctly match a group
